One of the coolest things about snowboarding is that every run you take is a new opportunity to draw a creative line down the mountain. Even if you’re lapping your favorite run, you can always change where you turn or how you hit a terrain feature. With an open mind for mixing up your chosen line, every run has the potential to feel really fresh.

Matching a creative riding mindset with the right board and good snow is when the magic of snowboarding truly comes to life. When you drop into a powder run riding a board built for your riding style, your potential for drawing an epic line is exponentially increased.

In 2018 we debuted one of the most playful boards we have ever made for drawing a line down a mountain - the Jones Mind Expander. Designed by surfboard shaper Chris Christenson, the Mind Expander is an alternative all-mountain board built for the creative rider who draws lines blending freestyle, freeride and surf styles. If the snow is soft and you’re looking to slash every terrain feature in sight than no better shred stick than the Mind Expander. It’s designed to rip tight turns and pop ollies all the way down the mountain.

“The Mind Expander is like none other. It rips like a directional board, but it’s easy to ride switch and it’s quick to respond to fast freestyle moves.” - Jones Ambassador Forrest Shearer

After last winter we knew the Mind Expander was too fun not to offer this radical shred stick to every size rider. For 2019 we are thrilled to introduce a four model Mind Expander collection including three new additions: Women’s Mind Expander, Mini Mind Expander and the Mind Expander Split. We also added two new sizes to the Men’s Mind Expander model. There are now ten Mind Expander sizes to choose from, plus two split sizes!

The secrets to the Mind Expander’s fun factor are the Christenson Surf Rocker profile, the medium soft flex and it’s hybrid directional shape. The blunt nose, squared off but full size tail, and mid-wide waist width offer the float and nimble maneuverability of a directional board with the freestyle abilities of a directional twin. The Mind Expander’s compact shape allows you to size down and ride a size 4-8 cm shorter than your average freeride board.

The Mind Expander’s surf rocker profile lifts the nose out of the snow on even the deepest days and the tight sidecut rockets the board into turns. In rough snow the Web Fused Carbon Stringers smooth out any nose vibrations. The Men’s and Women’s solid Mind Expander models also feature SPOON 3.0 base contours for lightning fast edge-to-edge energy transfer and turn initiation.

The new Mini Mind Expander is an especially unique board for young but inspired snow slashers. There are few if any other directional or powder specific youth boards on the market. The Mini Mind Expander comes in two sizes, 130 and 138 cm, and is specially tuned for lightweight riders. It is ideal for young rippers who can confidently link turns and are looking to blaze their own tracks into the powder.

The Mind Expander Split comes in two sizes and features the same hybrid directional shape and surf rocker profile as the solid models. The unique shape is matched with a short sidecut for snappy turn potential in tight trees and inner and outer edge Traction Tech for enhanced edge grip on icy skintracks or firm descents. For unmatched torsionally board connection in ride mode, the Mind Expander Split also features our Boltless Bridge and Karakoram Ultra Clips.

“Whether you are freeriding in the backcountry or riding freestyle around the resort the Mind Expander is that rare alternative board shape that works exceptionally well in any environment.” - Forrest Shearer.
